USGBC Detroit Welcomes new Board of Directors

The Detroit Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council recently completed its nomination and balloting process to select the Board of Directors that will lead the organization for the next two years. Members of the DRC were invited to submit their votes prior to the deadline of November 14, 2011, and the results are as follows:

Jonathan Backos, LEED AP BD+C; Jacob Stevens Corvidae, LEED AP; David Norwood, JD; Ronald A. Rivers, Jr., LEED AP; Kim Rosseter, LEED AP; and Robert Stevenson, LEED AP BD+C have been elected to serve on the U.S. Green Building Council Detroit Regional Chapter’s Board of Directors for the years of 2012 and 2013. These members serve in addition to existing seated board representatives Kevin P. Mlutkowski, LEED AP BD+C; Roderick L. Brown, PE, PMP®, SSBB, LEED Green Associate; Daniel H. Jacobs, NCARB, LEED AP; Jeffrey T. Gaines  AIA, AICP, LEED AP BD+C; and Julie Lyons Bricker, LEED AP.

Emeritus Board members Paul Goldsmith, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP and Saulius Mikalonis, JD service terms are coming to an end and the Detroit Regional Chapter-USGBC is very grateful for their years of vision and dedication to the organization and green building practices across Southeast Michigan.

Welcome new DRC-USGBC Board Members Jonathan Backos and Ronald A Rivers:

Jonathan Backos, LEED AP BD+C
Operations Director, EcoHill Solutions
Backos, LEED AP BD+C, brings a unique sustainable business prospective to the DRC-USGBC.  He obtained one of the first Bachelor of Science Degrees in Environmental Science & Management from the Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University, and in 2009 completed his MBA at Walsh College in Troy, Michigan.  Jonathan’s combination of environmental science and business strategy helps clients see the benefits of green solutions from both sides.  Sustainable design must not only be good for the environment, but profitable for business, as well.  Backos focuses on design strategies that produce the highest returns on investment, but have low maintenance costs. He has worked in various capacities on multiple existing and new construction LEED projects.

Ronald A. Rivers, Jr., LEED AP:
Associate, Allen and Associates
Rivers has served on the DRC-USGBC LEED for Homes Committee since July of 2010, and has been involved in the LEED Commercial Real Estate Committee since May 2011. He has interest in raising the profile and awareness of the economics of green building to regional stakeholders (owners, officials, etc.) Rivers brings 20 years of commercial/residential real estate in appraisal, development, management, and green renovations. He has co-developed the Allen and Associates Company’s green consulting and valuation service, has authored “Green Retrofits” for Hospitality Advisors Commentary, and earned an MBA from University of Michigan. Rivers has seven years of strategic business planning experience including work as Manager of Entrepreneurial Management Services and five years in non-profit leadership with experience as program manager and educator under the WK Kellogg Program at Detroit Northern High. He is also involved with the University Cultural Center Association, Woodward Planning Group, and other organizations.
