USGBC-DRC Launches Year-End Fundraising Campaign with Matching Fund Challenge

Southfield, MI: The Detroit Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council is actively engaging the community in a “Giving to Go Green” fundraising campaign to support its goal of fostering healthy, sustainable building practices across Southeast Michigan. Donations made through the “Giving to Go Green” campaign until December 31, 2011 are being generously matched ,with $1.00 for every $3.00 donated,  by DRC founding member Paul Goldsmith and the Elaine Goldsmith Foundation.

The chapter has a year-end goal of raising $20,000, which will help underwrite the Green Schools Initiative, LEED Neighborhood Development Program, and LEED Rating System Study Groups. These are key USGBC programs which are making a valuable positive contribution to the region’s evolution—moving toward sustainable green building practices for those living and working in Southeast Michigan, and healthy clean learning environments for area children. To kick-start the campaign, each member of the Detroit chapter's Board of Directors has made a personal contribution, matched by the Elaine Goldsmith Foundation, bringing the Board of Directors- “Giving to Go Green” total to $4,700.

“Elaine’s passion and ability for teaching at the elementary school level was closely followed by our collective zeal for “green” living," says Paul Goldsmith.  "Elaine’s memory will be honored by each dollar donated toward the advancement of ‘green’ education at all levels, most especially at the Elementary School level.”
